My birth book wishlist

I have some great birthing books already, but I really want to add these four recommended books to my collection. These are the books on my “to-buy list”:
1.
The Thinking Woman’s Guide to a Better Birth
“With the help of this book, any intelligent person can obtain the information necessary to make informed choices. This unique [...]

My ideal hospital birth

Some of my long time readers, friends, & family know that I did not carry the Team to term. Noah was born at 35 weeks, Ella- 34, & Dana was the earliest yet at 32 weeks. Each time my water broke before I was induced. Each time I had been repeatedly “checked” for cervical dilation, [...]

Birth & the Origins of Violence

Preventing Violence or Developing the Capacity to Love: Which Perspective? Which Investment?
“Of course, love and sexuality are not synonymous. Nobody can define love, nor can anyone analyze different forms of love with any precision. The ultimate form of love among humans may be the love of Nature, a great respect for Mother earth. The first [...]

The Business of Being Born

I found a fantastic review by Jennifer Block on the movie, The Business of Being Born:
“The film has celebrity backing from Ricki Lake, whose bathtub home birth is one of several beautifully shot for the big screen. The women walk around nude or nearly so. They moan, groan, and sing through contractions. They hold on [...]

A Word About Obstetrical Birth

by Wilhelm Reich, M.D.

The Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative

The Ten Steps of the Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative are all based on practices for which there is solid scientific evidence. Founded by CIMS: “The Coalition for Improving Maternity Services is a coalition of individuals and organizations with concern for the care and well-being of mothers, babies, and families. Our mission is to promote a wellness [...]

Dreaming

I had the strangest dream last night. The type that’s so real that once you awaken, you are in a surreal fuzz for hours.
In the dream I was birthing a baby in my bathtub by myself (Why do I always dream I have babies in my bathtub?) & it was another boy. We named him [...]
