Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk

6:42pm on the 23rd of August, 2007

My maternal grandfather suffers from Alzheimer’s induced dementia & at now over eighty years of age, is ailing further every day. He started showing signs a few years ago & now the disease effects him so greatly that I am unsure he will remain in my life for very much longer. Sadly it has been over five years since I last saw him, he lives in Minnesota so it’s quite a jaunt with three small children. I just hope with all my heart I will get the chance to see him before he passes on. My grandmother is a fantastically patient, nurturing wife to him & even though he has threatened her with bodily harm (he has fits caused by the dementia  ) she still cares for him each & every day.

Even though I cannot go to visit my grandfather at this time, I can participate in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk & try to raise funds to support the Alzheimer’s Association find a cure. Thankfully, there is a Memory Walk going on in a nearby town in mid-October where I will be able to participate, maybe even sign up as a Team Captain. The Memory Walk is nationwide, so be sure to check to see if there is one local to you that you can sign up early for. Please join us in helping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease today!
