Knitting on the brain
5:30pm on the 7th of July, 2007
As you can see, I have been of a knitting mind these last few days(uh, years?). I can now say that I’ve been a knitter for two years this month! It’s been a sick obsession ever since I started. I’ve always been a DIY-er & when I saw how much hand knit wool diaper covers cost, I knew the prices were out of my league. I have always been a Jane-of-all-trades, so it was never a matter of “would I be able to knit” more like “this is fun! Hopefully it looks better as time goes by!” & boy did I ever catch on quick.
For the first few months, I knit backwards- making my stitches look really strange & kind of bumpy. I used to cry when I had to frog something & start over because I didn’t know HOW the process worked. Well, now I DO & let me tell you- I can knit for hours- mess up & it only takes minutes for me to fix.
I LOVE knitting on circular needles- double pointed needles, too (DPNs).. although I’m not a fan of straight knitting I still enjoy it because it’s KNITTING!
I’m a left-handed knitter, so I adapted quickly to the Continental style instead of the more traditional English style of knitting.
My first project was a soaker. It evolved into longies, shorties, toys, hats, finger puppets, washcloths, & more that doesn’t come to mind right now. I’d like to knit a few sweaters, scarves, & blankets in the months to come. I’d also like to knit something for myself, something I’ve yet to do!
